Goal: Help state-level activists be ready with good and well-supported carbon tax legislation and a campaign plan for January 2019.

Invitees: Everyone is invited, but the intended focus is less on top-tier states like Washington and Massachusetts that already have active campaigns and more on second-tier states that want to become top-tier states! Contact any of the facilitators (including yoram@standupeconomist.com) if interested!

Course: Weekly videoconference, 90 minutes a week for 7 weeks, with readings and homework assignments. Tuesday evenings 8:00-9:30pm ET starting T May 15 and ending T June 26, with free Zoom software so everyone can participate online. (Recordings will be available online for those who missed the calls.) On weeks 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 you’d join folks from other states around the country for a group lesson about policy, organizing, etc. On weeks 4 and 6 you’d schedule a one-on-one check-in with one of the state carbon pricing experts running the course; this extensive one-on-one time is built into the course because every state is unique.

Spirit: Ecumenical. Our job isn’t to tell you what to do; our job is to share knowledge (ours and others’) with you and help you think of options so that you can make informed choices on your own.

Cost: Free! (This is something of a beta-test endeavor; if it goes well then some or all of us might pursue grant funding for a updated version in future years.)

Facilitators: Jamie DeMarco, State Carbon Pricing Coordinator for Citizens Climate Lobby; Michael Green and Marc Breslow, Climate X-Change; and Yoram Bauman, founder of the 2016 carbon tax ballot measure campaign in WA (I-732). Plus special guests!!
